Islamic Reform in Twentieth-Century Africa

Author's Note: In this book, I will look at the development of Muslim movements
of reform in sub-Saharan Africa in the twentieth century and address the
question of how we can develop an understanding of processes of reform
that considers both the dynamics of movements of reform and the constant
change in the meaning of reform. In an introductory chapter, I will present
the historical and social context for the development of movements of reform
in sub-Saharan Africa, that is, the processes of social, political and religious
change that continue to inform African societies in the twentieth and twenty-
first centuries.
